Open access policy

All books published by ISCI are made immediately available worldwide under an open access license. Which means:

  • everyone has free and unlimited access to the full-text of all books published by ISCI;
  • everyone is free to re-use the published material if proper accreditation/citation of the original publication is given;
  • open access publication is supported by the authors’ institutes or research funding agencies by payment of a comparatively low Book Processing Charge (APC) for accepted books.

Benefits for authors

Freely available online
ISCIOpen books are freely and immediately available online upon publication and are clearly labeled as ‘open access’. They are accessible to anyone worldwide, which ensures distribution to the widest possible audience.

High visibility
In addition to ISCILink, ISCIOpen books are also automatically included in ISCI’s eBook Collections at no additional charge to ensure maximum distribution.

Authors retain copyright
Books are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY) license, so they can be reused and redistributed as long as the original author is attributed. Other Creative Commons licenses may be available on request.

All book types accepted
ISCI accepts complete monographs, edited volumes, proceedings, and ISCIBriefs.

Available in different formats
The open access eBook is freely available online and accessible to anyone with an internet connection at any time. In addition to this free electronic version, a print edition is offered for those who still wish to buy a printed book. The open access eBook is automatically included in ISCI’s eBook Collections at no additional cost. For patrons whose library offers the respective eBook Collection, the printed book is therefore exclusively available as a MyCopy softcover edition.

High quality standards
Books are subject to the same high level peer-review, production and publishing processes followed by traditional ISCI books.
